Below is the photo and video of Dr. and Rev. Kim Min Woong. His topic was Peace in the Korean Peninsula and Northern East Asia.

Lecture Title: Peace in Korean Peninsula and in Southeast and South Asia

Peace question in the Northeast Asia
The Cold war system started the peace and conflict crisis in the Korean Peninsula
The cold war system was designed by the United States, it changing and being caused by different factors

What is going on in the Northeast Asia region?

6 Party Talks: Peace Building in Northeast Asia
1. South Korea
2. North Korea
3. Japan
4. Russia
5. United States
6. China

This “party talks” begins when there was a trouble between the US and North Korea concerning the development of Nuclear power of North Korea.
What is the reason why North Korea has this Nuclear Power? – The reasons behind the development of nuclear power of North Korea to defend itself from the United States. It is a defensive mechanism from the point of North Korea.
North Korea Nuclear project is an exceptional case this is the only country that has a special purpose of doing this.
In the 6 party talks, North Korea said it will disable its nuclear arms but US has to do the same. U.S. has to stop being confrontational and if US will be hospital to North Korea. And through the peace building in Northeast Asia begins. Analysis wise this is an incomplete creation of peace system in the region.
What do you mean by the peace system? – No more fighting and no more confrontation.
U.S. said that the real establishment of a peace system in the Korean peninsula is the unification of South and North Korea. One practical problem about this is the difference in lifestyle and experience of the people in the South and North Korea.
Discussion on the historical context of Northeast Asia
Discussion on the 2nd World War – it was actually a European civil war which resulted to a European solidarity that resulted to the creation of the EU. After the 2nd WWII, European countries were devastated and US gain the hegemonic position in the world.
The notion of creating an empire is the main or symbolic goal of every countries in the 19th century to show economic ad political power and one way of achieving this to acquire colonies.
The defeat of Japan in the 2nd World War was the expansion of the US imperialism and hegemony all over Asia and it still happening now in Asia. Almost all of Asia is now under the influence and indirect/directly politically and economically and even military controlled by the US.
Cold War – emergence of two big systems – Russia, China and North Korea (Communist dominance and South Korea and the US. (‘Democracy” dominance) The Korean War took place. No one won in the war, there was a truce. Then North Korea went into its goal of militarization.
1950s and 1960s and 1970s national liberation movement rose up in all o most countries in Asia.
The national division of the Korean peninsula is a result of a cold war system. It is not only a struggle for gaining democracy but much more a struggle against western domination and hegemony.
The unification of the Korean peninsula faces practical issues and concerns. It has its on international complexities. It depends on how the other countries involve in the 6 party talks will respond to this situation.
The essence of FTA is to make possible the US hegemony in each country of the world. To establish its dominance in the world. It is not only about reducing barriers to trade. This has impacts on the long struggle on democratization, human rights and peace.
The Korean unification is a long process. The first step to recognize North Korea as a state. This should be a process of dialogue between two partners. Recognition of co-existence of both South and North Korea as equal partners.
The unification of the Korean Peninsula will have two impacts, peace to Korean population as a whole however the unification will be a threat to other powerful countries like US, china and Japan since there is a big possibility that a unified Korea will be a powerful country both militarily and economically. The only way is for Korea to appear neutral is ever it will be unified.

What is the definition of Peace-Building?
The U.S. defines it not necessarily the withdrawal of military arms.
Integration of North Korea in the global capitalism system is one of the ways how the US would want to build peace in North Korea.
